IIT Roorkee unveils advanced course in Quantum computing & AI/ML

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has announced the launch of its first batch of the Advanced Certificate in Quantum Computing: Algorithms and AI/ML, a 6.5-month programme aimed at equipping professionals with next-generation skills for the quantum era.

Offered through IIT Roorkee’s Continuing Education Centre (CEC) in collaboration with TimesPro, a leading higher edtech platform, the online programme blends theory with hands-on training. Learners will gain expertise in quantum internet protocols, secure communication, and quantum machine learning (QML) using industry-leading tools such as Qiskit, PennyLane, and IBM Quantum Systems.

The curriculum spans five modules covering quantum computing fundamentals, algorithms, communication, and QML applications. Participants will work on real-world projects in domains like finance, healthcare, optimisation, drug discovery, and image classification, and complete a 30-hour Capstone Project. The programme includes 300+ learning hours through live sessions, assignments, and case studies, with an optional campus immersion.

According to Prof. Kaushik Ghosh, Coordinator, CEC, IIT Roorkee, the course bridges the gap between quantum theory and real-world deployment. “Participants will learn to code, simulate, and benchmark quantum algorithms while applying AI/ML methods to areas where quantum advantage is emerging,” he said.

Graduates can explore diverse roles such as Quantum Software Developer, Machine Learning Engineer, Algorithm Researcher, Quantum Data Scientist, and Security Analyst.

The launch aligns with a rapidly growing global quantum computing market, projected to expand from USD 1.42 billion in 2024 to USD 4.24 billion by 2030, driven by strong R&D investment and adoption across mission-critical industries.

Applications for the programme are open until November 23, and successful candidates will receive a Certificate from CEC, IIT Roorkee.
