IIT Roorkee And SkyySkill Launch EV Certification Programmes To Build Job-Ready Workforce

The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, through its Electronics & ICT Academy IIT Roorkee, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SkyySkill Academy to launch Electric Vehicle (EV) Technology certification programmes aimed at strengthening India’s electric mobility workforce.

The initiative focuses on addressing the growing demand for skilled professionals in the EV ecosystem , as India accelerates its transition towards clean and sustainable transportation. The programmes are designed to offer industry-aligned advanced and short-term certifications for engineering graduates, diploma holders, and working professionals seeking specialised expertise in electric mobility technologies.

The curriculum has been developed to combine academic learning with practical application. It covers key domains such as EV architecture, battery technologies, battery management systems (BMS), electric motors, power electronics, EV charging infrastructure, diagnostics, safety systems, and energy optimisation . This structured approach ensures learners gain both theoretical understanding and hands-on technical competence.

A major highlight of the programme is its emphasis on practical, industry-oriented training . Participants will undergo live online sessions, laboratory exposure, structured assignments, and real-world capstone projects . These projects are based on actual EV use cases, enabling learners to apply engineering concepts to real operational challenges in the electric mobility sector.expected to improve employability across key domains such as EV manufacturing, research and development (R&D), and service and maintenance ecosystems .

Speaking on the initiative, officials from the Electronics & ICT Academy highlighted that the rapid growth of electric mobility requires a workforce with strong technical knowledge and practical exposure. The collaboration with SkyySkill Academy is aimed at strengthening industry–academia engagement and creating a pipeline of skilled professionals for emerging technologies.

Representatives from SkyySkill Academy also stressed the importance of practice-oriented learning models , noting that electric mobility is rapidly transforming the automotive sector and creating new career opportunities for trained professionals.

Upon successful completion of the programme and assessments, participants will receive a certificate from Electronics & ICT Academy, IIT Roorkee , adding academic credibility and industry relevance to their skills profile.

The initiative is supported by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), which focuses on capacity building in electronics, ICT, and emerging technology domains. SkyySkill Academy, meanwhile, continues to contribute to skill development across advanced engineering fields including EV systems and drone technologies.
