The Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI (WSAI) at Indian Institute of Technology Madras is set to host its Annual Research Showcase 2026 on May 18, bringing together researchers, students, faculty members, industry professionals and academic collaborators to explore emerging developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science.

The event will be held from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm and will feature nearly 100 research projects presented through research posters by students and scholars affiliated with WSAI and its interdisciplinary research centres and laboratories.

According to the institute, the showcase will highlight ongoing research across several advanced domains, including applied AI and machine learning, generative AI and large language models (LLMs), reinforcement learning, computer vision, computational biology and responsible AI. Many of the featured research works have already been presented at leading international conferences and published in reputed scientific journals.

The institute said the annual event aims to create a collaborative platform for interaction among academia, industry stakeholders and the research community, while also encouraging discussions on the future applications and societal impact of AI-driven technologies.

Highlighting the significance of the event, Prof. Balaraman Ravindran, Head of WSAI at IIT Madras, said the Annual Research Showcase has evolved into an important forum celebrating the collaborative and interdisciplinary nature of AI research at the institution.

He said this year’s edition would showcase the contributions of students and researchers working on impactful problems across multiple fields such as Gen AI, machine learning, reinforcement learning, computer vision and responsible AI .

The organisers have invited researchers, students, collaborators and industry representatives to participate in the showcase. External research scholars and students can register through the official online Google Form shared by the institute.

Further details regarding the event and the list of research posters are available on the official WSAI website.

The showcase reflects IIT Madras’ growing focus on strengthening research and innovation in AI and Data Science, areas that are increasingly shaping sectors such as healthcare, education, governance, mobility and digital services worldwide.
