IIT Kharagpur rolls out online AI, ML certification courses for professionals

Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur has launched a series of online executive certification programmes in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and technology leadership, aimed at equipping working professionals with advanced, industry-relevant skills, the institute said on Monday.

According to the statement, the programmes are designed to build end-to-end, production-ready AI capabilities , focusing on practical applications rather than theoretical exposure. The initiative targets engineers, software developers, and technology professionals who are looking to upgrade their skills in line with rapidly evolving industry demands.

The new offerings include the Executive Post Graduate Certificate in Generative AI & Agentic AI and the Executive Post Graduate Certificate in AI-Native Software Engineering , both introduced by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. These programmes have been developed based on real workforce requirements , ensuring alignment with current and emerging job roles in the technology sector.

All courses will be delivered through live online classes by IIT-Kharagpur faculty , enabling wider access to the institute’s advanced AI-driven curriculum beyond its physical campus. The institute said this format is intended to make high-quality technical education more accessible to professionals across locations.

Commenting on the launch, Director Suman Chakraborty said that innovations in artificial intelligence are advancing at an unprecedented pace , requiring institutions to extend learning opportunities to experienced professionals outside traditional classrooms.

He added that the programmes are designed for practitioners who seek true capability development , enabling them to take AI systems from concept to reliable real-world deployment . The focus, he said, is not just on exposure to AI tools, but on building the ability to implement and scale solutions effectively.

With this initiative, IIT Kharagpur aims to strengthen its role in executive education and contribute to the growing demand for skilled professionals in generative AI, machine learning, and AI-driven software engineering .
