IIT Delhi, KVS unite to boost STEM learning

In a major step towards strengthening STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) learning at the school level, the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) on October 24, 2025, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing student exposure to scientific innovation while also facilitating professional development for teachers.

This collaboration marks the first-ever MoU between KVS and any IIT for STEM outreach. It formalises the ongoing engagement between the two institutions, particularly through the Sci Tech Spins (STS) lecture series led by IIT Delhi’s Office of Academic Outreach & New Initiatives. In 2025, STS successfully completed eight sessions, drawing participation from around 3,000 students across Delhi-NCR, with a significant number from Government-run Kendriya Vidyalayas.

The signing ceremony witnessed the presence of key dignitaries from IIT Delhi including Director Professor Rangan Banerjee, Deputy Director (Operations) Professor Arvind K. Nema, Dean (Academics) Professor Dhanya, Associate Dean Academics (Outreach & New Initiatives) Professor Shilpi Sharma and Registrar Atul Vyas. Senior officials from KVS also joined the event, discussing several existing outreach initiatives that align with the MoU’s objectives.

One of the flagship programmes, Manasvi: STEM Mentorship for high school girls, received special appreciation from Smt. Prachi Pandey, IA&AS, Commissioner KVS and Joint Secretary, DoSE&L, Ministry of Education. She highlighted the need to further introduce skill-building and development-based initiatives for both students and educators.

Under the MoU, KV students and teachers will gain hands-on exposure to STEM activities at IIT Delhi, enabling them to engage with scientific concepts beyond textbooks and explore real-world applications. IIT Delhi faculty and students will also visit KV schools to conduct workshops and inspire interest in STEM careers.

A structured feedback mechanism will further evaluate and refine the programmes for maximum impact. The partnership reflects IIT Delhi’s continuous efforts to nurture curiosity among young learners and empower educators with emerging teaching practices to strengthen classroom learning.
