IIM-Calcutta and SRFTI forge first ever business media collaboration
The Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta (IIM-C) and the Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI) have entered into a landmark collaboration to foster academic, research, and professional cooperation. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday in the presence of IIM-C Director Prof. Alok Kumar Rai and SRFTI Vice-Chancellor Prof. Samiran Datta.
This partnership represents the first-ever alliance between a premier management institute and a leading media and film school in India. It aims to merge IIM Calcutta’s expertise in management education, consulting, and capacity building with SRFTI’s strengths in film, media, and storytelling. Together, the two institutions plan to develop programs that integrate business strategy with creative practice, bridging the gap between analytical thinking and artistic expression.
Under the MoU, both IIM-C and SRFTI will engage in joint research, teaching, and consultancy initiatives. They will also introduce specialized training and capacity-building programs designed to promote cross-disciplinary learning. Faculty and student exchanges, as well as collaborative projects, will further enhance synergies between management principles and creative media insights.
The initiative seeks to create a distinctive academic ecosystem that leverages creativity through the lens of management, aiming to strengthen India’s creative economy. By fostering collaboration between business strategy and media innovation, the partnership aspires to open new opportunities for students, professionals, and researchers alike. This MoU is expected to serve as a model for integrating creative and analytical disciplines, encouraging innovation, and preparing a new generation of professionals equipped to thrive in an increasingly interdisciplinary world.
