IIM Jammu drives entrepreneurship, governance reform, and global learning for Viksit Bharat 2047
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu is emerging as a national leader in innovation, entrepreneurship, and global education, aligning its initiatives with the Government of India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Established in 2016, the institute has steadily expanded its academic and research footprint, contributing to socio-economic growth in Jammu & Kashmir and beyond.
Under the leadership of Professor B S Sahay, Director of IIM Jammu, the institute is at the forefront of efforts to drive entrepreneurship and governance reform. The Centre for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Skill Development (CEISD) is promoting grassroots start-ups and fostering a culture of creativity and enterprise. The Centre focuses on enabling youth-led innovation, providing mentorship, and connecting local entrepreneurs to the national Skill India framework. Complementing this initiative, the Small Business Development Unit (SBDU) has supported more than 400 entrepreneurs through capacity-building and training programmes aimed at strengthening self-reliance and regional employment.
Promoting inclusive development, IIM Jammu established the Centre for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI), the first of its kind in India to empower underrepresented communities in business and entrepreneurship. Through this Centre, the institute is addressing barriers to participation for women, rural youth, and marginalized groups, reinforcing its commitment to equitable growth.
Student well-being forms another vital pillar of the institution’s philosophy. Ānandam – The Centre for Happiness integrates yoga, meditation, and life management practices into the academic environment to foster mental wellness and holistic growth.
On the governance front, the Centre for Innovation and Transformation in Governance (CITaG) is collaborating with the Government of Jammu and Kashmir to implement data-driven and technology-enabled governance reforms. The Centre aims to enhance policy effectiveness and support capacity-building for public officials in line with the broader Viksit Bharat 2047 framework.
Strengthening its international presence, IIM Jammu has established 21 global academic partnerships across 19 countries, including collaborations with Alba Graduate Business School (Greece), University of Scranton (USA), CENTRUM PUCP Business School (Peru), Deakin University (Australia), IE University (Spain), and University of Gothenburg (Sweden). So far, 32 students from the current batch have participated in international exchange programmes, reflecting the institute’s growing global engagement.
Academically, IIM Jammu has introduced innovative programmes such as the MBA in Healthcare and Hospital Management in partnership with AIIMS Jammu and IIT Jammu, and a six-year Dual BTech–MBA programme combining technology and management education.
The institute recently earned the prestigious BGA Accreditation for a five-year term, marking international recognition of its academic quality. It secured 42nd rank in NIRF 2024 and 22nd in IIRF 2025, reflecting its consistent rise among India’s leading business schools. Faculty members have produced 110 research publications in reputed international journals, including those listed in FT50 and A-Star categories, with collaborations involving scholars from 28 countries.
Through its integrated focus on innovation, inclusivity, and internationalisation, IIM Jammu continues to strengthen its position as a catalyst for change, advancing research, entrepreneurship, and governance excellence in Jammu & Kashmir, and contributing to India’s journey toward a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
