IFFI: Platform for Youth, Innovation & Culture

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr. L Murugan has said that events like the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) are playing a key role in advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of an “orange economy” , a model that merges creativity, culture, and economic growth. IFFI 2025 starts on November 20 and ends on November 28, 2025

Speaking at the inauguration of IFFI 2025 in Panaji on Thursday, Dr. Murugan emphasised that India is entering a new creative era where art, films, and innovation will significantly contribute to the nation's economy. Goa Governor Ashok Gajapathy Raju, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Union MoS Shripad Naik, veteran actor Nandamuri Balakrishna, and festival director Shekhar Kapur were among the dignitaries present.

The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is one of Asia’s oldest and most prestigious film festivals. It showcases films from India and across the world, promoting cinema as a medium of artistic expression and cultural exchange.

Strong push for Creative Economy

Quoting PM Modi, Dr. Murugan said that “content, creativity, and culture are the three pillars of the Orange Economy.” He noted that India’s film and entertainment sector is rapidly evolving and positioned to create jobs, global collaborations, and new opportunities for youth.

He also highlighted the World Audio-Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) held in Mumbai in May this year, inaugurated by the Prime Minister. The summit showcased India’s expanding creative industry on a global platform and underscored the country's capacity in audio-visual innovation.

Boost for Young & Emerging Creators

The minister said that the Union Ministry of Information and Technology is taking multiple steps to offer young creators international exposure. Platforms like IFFI and WAVES, he noted, give filmmakers and content creators from across the country direct access to global audiences.

Tribute to Manohar Parrikar

Dr. Murugan also paid tribute to former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, calling him instrumental in making Goa the permanent home for IFFI and shaping its identity as a global film destination.

As IFFI 2025 begins, the emphasis is clear: India wants to harness its cultural strength and creative talent to build a powerful orange economy that fuels both artistic expression and economic progress
