The upcoming 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is set to make history with the inclusion of the country’s first-ever AI Film Festival and Hackathon, highlighting the growing role of artificial intelligence in cinema and storytelling.

Organised by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), IFFI 2025 will take place in Goa later this month. The new AI-focused segment aims to bring together filmmakers, technologists, and students to explore how cutting-edge tools can transform various aspects of filmmaking from scriptwriting and visual effects to post-production and audience engagement.

According to the organisers, the AI Hackathon will serve as a platform for young innovators to experiment with creative applications of AI in film production, while the AI Film Festival will showcase short films and projects developed using AI-based technologies.

Launched in 1952, IFFI is India’s premier film festival and one of Asia’s oldest international film events. Each year, it celebrates the best of world and Indian cinema, drawing participation from industry veterans, emerging filmmakers, and global audiences. With the introduction of AI-focused events in 2025, IFFI is embracing the future of filmmaking while continuing its legacy of innovation and creativity.
