IAF Band To Perform At Param Yodha Sthal Ahead Of Independence Day

The Indian Air Force band will perform at Param Yodha Sthal near the National War Memorial in New Delhi on Sunday, ahead of India’s 80th Independence Day.

The performance will take place at the Public Plaza from 5 pm to 6 pm on August 9, the Defence Ministry said. The event will also mark 150 years of Vande Mataram, India’s National Song.

A 40-member IAF team will take part in the performance. It includes 32 Airmen and eight Agniveervayu personnel, with three women among them.

The band will present patriotic and soulful songs during the one-hour show. The Defence Ministry said the event aims to bring people closer to the armed forces and create a sense of national pride.

Master Warrant Officer A Srihari will lead the performance. Junior Warrant Officers Moon Deka and Abhishek Paul, along with Sergeant NT Singh, will assist him.

The performance is part of wider events marking 150 years of Vande Mataram. Earlier this year, the IAF band performed at Central Park and Rajiv Chowk in Delhi. At Rajiv Chowk, the 31-member band performed 11 musical pieces, including Vande Mataram and Sindoor, a song linked to Operation Sindoor.

The IAF band has been part of India’s military music tradition since 1944 and performs both Indian and Western music.

With Independence Day falling on August 15, the Sunday evening performance at the National War Memorial is expected to give Delhi residents a patriotic musical start to the celebrations.
