HYDRAA saves govt land worth ₹700 cr in Kondapur

In a major action against long-running land encroachments, HYDRAA officials have protected nearly four acres of valuable government land in Kondapur, Serilingampally mandal. The land, originally earmarked for public parks and utility spaces, had been under threat from private individuals attempting to convert it into residential plots.

Following complaints from local residents, HYDRAA conducted a detailed field inspection and found that the park areas had been illegally converted into plots and sold. In several cases, General Power of Attorney (GPA) holders had carved up the land in the 1980s, and some buyers even managed to regularize the plots through (Layout Regularisation Scheme) LRS and Building Regularisation Scheme (BRS) schemes. One park measuring 1.20 acres was divided into 11 plots, and other open spaces were also sold off using fake or manipulated plot numbers.

HYDRAA officials estimate that the protected land is valued at more than ₹700 crore, with land prices in the area reaching up to ₹200 crore per acre.

Residents alleged that NRIs’ names were misused in the land dealings and that some developers - including Simha Developers and Vasavi Constructions - had even deployed bouncers to prevent locals from accessing the park areas. Left with no other option, the residents approached the High Court, which ordered HYDRAA to safeguard the public spaces.

Acting on the court’s directions, HYDRAA fenced the entire stretch on Friday and installed official boards marking the land as protected park space. Residents expressed relief and gratitude, saying that HYDRAA responded promptly to their complaints and prevented the loss of valuable public land.
