HYDRAA Reclaims Park from Encroachers in Machabolaram

In a decisive move to protect public assets, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) successfully reclaimed a 520-square-yard park in Machabolaram village, Medchal-Malkajgiri district, following a resident complaint. The park, located under survey number 164 in Sri Sai Surya Phase-2, was allocated for public use as part of a 1972 layout plan. However, for decades, its development had been stalled by encroachers, prompting local residents to lodge a complaint with HYDRAA on Thursday evening. Acting swiftly on Commissioner A.V. Ranganath’s directives, HYDRAA officials conducted a thorough investigation over two days, culminating in the erection of fencing around the park this morning.

The operation included the installation of a public notice board warning of prosecution for any further encroachments, a clear signal of the agency’s resolve. Jubilant residents of Sri Sai Surya Colony celebrated the move, raising slogans in support of the Telangana state government and lauding HYDRAA officials for freeing the park from what they termed a "decades-long stranglehold." This incident is part of HYDRAA’s broader efforts to safeguard public spaces, with the agency having protected over 12.5 acres in Medchal-Malkajgiri district alone, including public land valued at Rs 86 crore. Established in July 2024, HYDRAA operates through specialized wings, including the Asset Protection Wing, which focuses on reclaiming government properties like parks, lakes, and roads from illegal occupation.

The reclamation comes at a critical time as Hyderabad grapples with urban sprawl and the loss of green zones.
