HYDRAA Launches Action Against Dangerous Buildings In Anjayyanagar

Authorities have intensified action against unsafe multi-storey buildings in Anjayyanagar, Gachibowli, following the recent collapse of a seven-storey building in the locality. HYDRAA and GHMC officials have identified another seven-storey structure adjacent to the collapsed building as dangerous and are carrying out its removal.

On Monday, HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath, along with Kukatpally Zonal Commissioner Mayank Singh, inspected the area and reviewed the ongoing demolition and safety measures.

Ranganath said the administration was taking preventive measures to avoid further loss of life, stressing that authorities cannot afford to wait until another building collapses. Officials are identifying structures that pose a threat to residents and initiating action based on their condition. Buildings flagged by local residents are also being inspected, and further demolition will be undertaken wherever required.

The HYDRAA Commissioner attributed the growing structural risks in parts of Anjayyanagar to unauthorised vertical construction and encroachment of stormwater drains. He said some buildings had been constructed on plots of around 50 square yards after occupying portions of drainage channels, with structures rising seven or eight floors.

He also pointed out that some buildings obtained permissions for only two floors but subsequently added several more floors. In such cases, the foundations and columns may not have been designed to support the additional load, raising serious concerns over structural stability.

Authorities are taking precautions to prevent damage to neighbouring apartments and other structures during demolition. Buildings identified as unsafe are being vacated in advance, followed by controlled removal operations.

Ranganath said the precautionary process could result in some delay, but ensuring public safety is the top priority. HYDRAA and municipal officials will continue inspecting buildings in Anjayyanagar, particularly those identified through complaints, and take necessary action to prevent further accidents.
