HYDRAA implements HC orders, clears constructions in FCI layout

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Monday carried out a major demolition drive against what it says are unauthorized structures linked to Sandhya Convention owner Sridhar Rao near the main Gachibowli road in Serilingampally mandal. Acting on recent High Court directions, officials cleared constructions that were reportedly built over roads and park spaces within the Fertilizers Corporation of India (FCI) Employees Cooperative Housing Society layout.

According to officials, the High Court had expressed serious concern over alleged encroachments inside the FCI layout. In compliance with the court’s instructions, HYDRAA removed several structures:

• A five-storey building said to be built across a 40-ft road using an iron framework.

• The Mango Food Court and Uno Food Court, which were located along the same stretch.

• Portions of a petrol bunk that were extending into the road.

• Multiple food stalls and container units set up on 25-ft internal roads.

Officials stated that a total of seven internal roads were restored and made fully accessible. Several plot owners expressed relief, saying they had been unable to use their allotted access roads for years.

During recent hearings, the High Court reportedly took note of complaints from plot owners who alleged that parts of the 20-acre FCI layout, including internal roads and park spaces, had been taken over for private constructions. The court, while expressing dissatisfaction over the state of the layout, directed authorities to restore the original road network without delay. HYDRAA subsequently intensified its enforcement actions.

Plot owners allege that over several decades, much of the original layout - established in the 1980s - had been altered or encroached upon. Some residents claimed in their complaints to the civic body’s grievance portal that boundaries were removed, public areas were taken over, and that they faced intimidation when objecting. Officials reported to the Commissioner, A.V. Ranganath, that multiple constructions in the area did not have valid permissions.

Although some earlier demolitions were carried out, authorities say the illegal constructions resurfaced, prompting Monday’s renewed action.
