To prevent flooding in residential areas during the rainy season, HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath has directed officials to ensure the complete removal of silt accumulated in drainage canals. On Thursday, he conducted field inspections of desilting works in Rahmat Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Ameerpet and Gayatri Nagar areas of the city.

Key directions on desilting works:

Removal of obstructions:

The Commissioner instructed that if house gates or other structures obstruct desilting work, they should be removed immediately in unavoidable situations to complete the task. He emphasised that there must be no hindrance to floodwater flow .

Timely execution:Summer is the right time for major works… once the rains arrive, nothing can be done. Ensure that water flow is not obstructed anywhere before the upcoming monsoon ,” he warned.

Monitoring:

Officials were directed to maintain a clear report for every 100 metres on the progress of desilting. They were also asked to deploy additional staff if required and take support from DRF personnel to avoid disruptions.

Monitoring through WhatsApp groups:

The Commissioner urged colony welfare associations to form division-wise WhatsApp groups to continuously monitor the progress of desilting works. “ As local residents, you know best where the problems exist. If you share information, officials will respond immediately and take action ,” he assured.

During his visit, Ranganath inspected the heavy accumulation of silt near the Rahmat Nagar bridge and expressed dissatisfaction over dirty roads in areas like Krishna Nagar even during summer. He directed GHMC and Water Board officials to coordinate and resolve issues immediately if any obstacles arise during the works.
