Hydra Commissioner A.V. Ranganath has announced plans to transform Rayasamudram Lake , located in Ramachandrapuram mandal , into a beautifully developed recreational and tourist spot . He stated that comprehensive development proposals will soon be submitted to the government for approval. The Commissioner emphasized that any obstacles previously delaying work by the HMDA would be removed, and full support would be provided for all development activities .

Following complaints from local authorities and residents regarding hindrances in the lake’s development , the Commissioner conducted an on-site inspection on Tuesday. He observed the lake’s inlets and outlets and discussed issues affecting water flow with officials . During a subsequent press briefing , he elaborated on the plans .

Spanning approximately 120 acres , Rayasamudram Lake is being envisioned not just as a water resource but as a recreational hub for the local community . Plans include walking tracks around the lake, a children’s play area , parks , and exercise equipment suitable for all age groups . The Commissioner also stressed the need to preserve the lake as a sanctuary for migratory birds .

To prevent sewage from entering the lake, discussions will be held with BHEL management regarding the construction of diversion pipelines . He assured that all necessary actions would be taken without obstructing private lands and that sewage treatment plants (STPs) would be installed wherever required. Technical disputes concerning the lake’s lands between BHEL and other government agencies will be addressed through consultations with higher authorities .

Addressing local concerns , the Commissioner clarified that existing homes would not be demolished by the Hydra project . Only encroachments and other barriers obstructing water flow will be removed . In cases where removal is unavoidable, the government will ensure adequate compensation is provided.

The inspection was attended by officials from GHMC , HMDA , Irrigation Department , BHEL , and local leaders . The Commissioner personally reviewed the lake’s inlets to understand how sewage was entering the waterbody .
