The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has dismissed a message circulating on social media warning of a possible water shortage in Hyderabad, describing the claims as completely false. The clarification comes after messages shared on WhatsApp and other platforms alleged that the city's reservoirs could run dry by the end of November, potentially forcing authorities to restrict or suspend water supply.

The viral message attributes the alleged shortage to the impact of El Niño and an impending drought, raising concerns about the availability of water in the city in the coming months. However, the Hyderabad Water Board has categorically stated that it did not issue the message and that the claims being circulated in its name should not be treated as official information.

The board also clarified that the details mentioned in the message regarding reservoir storage levels and the city's water supply situation were not officially communicated by the department. It urged residents to exercise caution while consuming information shared through social media, particularly when such messages carry the name of government agencies or public utilities.

Appealing to citizens not to spread unverified claims, the board asked people to avoid forwarding misleading messages that could create unnecessary anxiety among residents. It stressed that information concerning water availability, supply schedules and conservation measures should be obtained only through the board's official announcements and authorised communication channels.

The board's clarification seeks to counter speculation about the city's water security and ensure that residents rely on verified information rather than unsubstantiated social media posts. It also serves as a reminder to check the authenticity of messages before sharing them with others.

Meanwhile, the water board reiterated the importance of responsible water consumption, urging residents to avoid wastage and adopt conservation practices. It emphasised that careful use of available water resources is essential to meet future demand and encouraged citizens to remain mindful of their daily consumption.

While rejecting the viral claims, the board's appeal for water conservation underlines the importance of using water judiciously. Residents have been advised to follow official updates for accurate information and cooperate in conserving water for the city's future needs.
