Hyderabad To Be Developed As A Signal-Free City: CM Revanth Reddy
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy stated that the State government’s goal is to free Hyderabad from traffic congestion and gradually transform it into a signal-free city . He made these remarks during an interaction with the Parliamentary Standing Committee on urban development held at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that merely widening roads would not be sufficient to address the challenges faced by the Core Urban Region within the Outer Ring Road limits or to meet future requirements. With the city’s population and number of vehicles increasing rapidly, he stressed the need to develop an integrated multi-modal transport system by coordinating buses, metro rail, railways and other modes of transport to control traffic congestion.
He also said the government was establishing multi-level parking facilities at key locations across the city to reduce parking-related problems.
Explaining the government’s development strategy, Revanth Reddy said the State was implementing the ‘CURE, PURE and RARE’ policy to ensure balanced and inclusive growth across Telangana. He said development plans were being carried out by categorising regions into the Core Urban Region, Peri-Urban Region and Rural Agri Region .
The Chief Minister further stated that the government had prepared the ‘Telangana Rising Vision 2047’ document as a roadmap for the State’s comprehensive development. He said the target was to transform Telangana into a 1 trillion-dollar economy by 2034 and a 3 trillion-dollar economy by 2047 .
Revanth Reddy also said the government was giving special priority to the rejuvenation of the heavily polluted Musi River . He noted that along with the river restoration project, works related to the Musi Riverfront development were also being undertaken.
To reduce pollution in the city, the government was introducing electric buses in the State Road Transport Corporation fleet and taking measures to convert autos into electric vehicles through free retrofitting within the Core Urban Region, he added.
Officials also gave presentations to the committee on drinking water supply, urban development and the Musi rejuvenation project. They requested greater financial assistance from the Centre for Hyderabad’s development programmes.
Committee Chairman Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy and other members reportedly appreciated the Musi restoration initiative, describing it as a revolutionary decision.
