
Hyderabad Student Feared Drowned in Alaknanda River Near NIT Uttarakhand
A 21-year-old B.Tech student from Hyderabad, studying at the National Institute of Technology Uttarakhand, is feared to have drowned in the Alaknanda River after going missing while bathing with friends on Sunday evening, officials said.
The student, identified as Anand Mohan , a third-year engineering student, reportedly went to the riverbank near the institute campus along with three classmates at around 4 pm. According to officials, Mohan jumped into the river from a mound but failed to resurface, triggering panic among his friends.
His companions immediately alerted the police, following which teams from the Srinagar police station, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Water Police rushed to the spot and launched a search operation.
Despite continued efforts till late evening, the student could not be traced. Authorities said the search operation had to be suspended due to darkness and will resume early Monday morning.
Officials have informed Mohan’s family in Telangana about the incident. Further efforts are underway to locate the missing student.
