Hyderabad Shock: Doctor’s Car Had a Button to Flip Number Plates!
A 30-year-old doctor was caught in a drunk driving case and later exposed for allegedly using a button-operated flip number plate system that allowed his vehicle to display two different registration numbers , police said on Monday.
The incident took place during a routine traffic check in Jubilee Hills on April 10 , when the man was found driving in an “inebriated” condition . His high-end car was seized and being taken to the police station when a surprising discovery was made.
According to police, a constable inadvertently pressed a button near the driver’s seat , which activated a hidden mechanism. The number plate then flipped , revealing two registrations one from Delhi and another from Telangana .
Investigators said the doctor had originally purchased the vehicle in Delhi , but had not updated its registration after bringing it to Telangana. Instead, he allegedly installed a flip number plate device online through a technician around two years ago .
Police further noted that a similar model vehicle was registered in Telangana under a relative’s name , raising suspicions that the accused was using both registration identities interchangeably .
Preliminary findings suggest the system may have been used to evade road tax and avoid detection , though officials said the exact motive is still under investigation . The role of the technician who fitted the device is also being examined.
A case has been registered against the doctor under multiple sections, including impersonation, cheating, violations of the Motor Vehicles Act, and drunk driving charges . He has also been issued a notice by the police .
Officials said further investigation is underway to determine the extent of misuse and whether the flip number plate system was used in other instances as well .
The case has drawn attention due to the sophisticated method used to alter vehicle identity , highlighting concerns over illegal vehicle modifications and enforcement loopholes .
