Hyderabad Police Seize 41 Kg of Cannabis, Three Odisha Men Arrested

Telangana’s anti-narcotics unit, the EAGLE Force , has seized more than 41 kilograms of cannabis in Hyderabad and arrested three men from Odisha in connection with an interstate drug trafficking case. The contraband, valued at approximately ₹20.5 lakh , was being transported to the city through a private passenger bus, officials said.

The seizure was made during a joint operation conducted on July 11 by the Rachakonda Narcotics Police Station and the Khammam Regional Narcotics Control Cell . Acting on specific intelligence, officials intercepted an Odisha-registered Baba Bholonath Travels bus in the Auto Nagar area of Hyderabad and recovered 41.01 kg of cannabis concealed inside the vehicle.

Along with the narcotics, police also seized the bus used for transportation and four mobile phones believed to be linked to the smuggling operation. Authorities said the accused were transporting the consignment from Odisha to Hyderabad in return for a commission.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Laxman Kurami (22) , a bus helper, Komal Khil (32) , the driver, and Bubu Madakami (33) , the conductor. All three are residents of Odisha. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted that they were involved in transporting the cannabis for financial benefits.

Police said two other key individuals connected to the case remain absconding. One of them, identified as Nubin , is believed to be the main supplier based in Odisha, while another suspect was allegedly waiting in Hyderabad to receive the consignment. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest both men.

Officials noted that this is the third major cannabis seizure involving private travel buses in recent months. They recalled that on May 21 , authorities had intercepted another bus travelling from Malkangiri, Odisha, to Hyderabad , seizing 21 kg of cannabis and arresting four people.

In a separate development, the EAGLE Force, working with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Raipur , recently dismantled an interstate drug trafficking network following a seven-day surveillance operation along the Chhattisgarh–Maharashtra border . That operation led to the seizure of 385 kg of cannabis , dealing a significant blow to organized narcotics trafficking. Officials have urged private bus operators to remain vigilant and prevent their vehicles from being used for illegal transportation activities.
