Hyderabad Police Launch AI-Powered Multilingual Complaint App, A First in India
In a major push towards technology-driven policing, the Hyderabad City Police has launched an AI-based multilingual complaint registration application titled ‘AI Copywriter’ , becoming the first police force in the country to introduce such a system.
The application was unveiled on Saturday at the TGICCC facility in Banjara Hills by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar, who reviewed its functioning and described it as a significant step towards inclusive and efficient policing.
The app has been designed to eliminate language barriers during complaint registration. Victims can now narrate their complaints in their native language, following which the system instantly converts the speech into written text and translates it into a language understandable to police personnel.
Officials said the platform would be implemented across more than 80 police stations in the city. The system currently supports around 10 major Indian languages , including Hindi, Tamil, Bengali and Marathi, making it especially useful for migrant workers, tourists and people from other states who may not be comfortable speaking Telugu or English.
According to police officials, the AI-powered platform drastically reduces the time required for complaint registration, bringing down a process that often took hours to just a matter of seconds. The app continuously updates spoken information every five seconds and converts it into an official digital record.
One of the key features of the application is its multi-party labelling capability , which can separately identify and record statements made by complainants, accused persons and witnesses. The system also automatically stores details such as the officer handling the complaint and the time of registration in PDF format, improving transparency and documentation.
Speaking at the launch, Commissioner Sajjanar said justice should never be obstructed by language limitations. He noted that Hyderabad, being a global city, attracts large numbers of migrants and visitors who often face difficulties while filing complaints.
He said accurate recording of every statement made by victims would strengthen investigations and improve the chances of conviction in criminal cases. The initiative, he added, would particularly benefit migrant workers, women and senior citizens while also reducing the typing burden on police personnel.
The Hyderabad Police has already been using several AI-driven systems as part of its smart policing initiatives. These include ‘C-Mitra’ for cybercrime complaints, an automated duty allocation mechanism for City Armed Reserve personnel, and ‘SACK-AI’ for monitoring harmful and unsafe social media content affecting women and children.
Officials expressed confidence that the launch of AI Copywriter marks the beginning of a new phase in modern urban policing. Additional Commissioners M. Srinivasulu and Tafseer Iqbal , along with DCP Roopesh and IT Cell officials, were also present at the event.
