Hyderabad Police Crack Down on Narcotics, Seize Drugs Worth ₹22.17 Crore in One Year

The Hyderabad City Police have intensified their crackdown on narcotics, adopting a comprehensive strategy to curb the spread of illegal drugs and dismantle trafficking networks operating across the city. Through coordinated efforts between law-and-order units and the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) , authorities have strengthened ground-level surveillance, intelligence gathering and enforcement activities, resulting in significant breakthroughs over the past year.

Official figures show that 563 NDPS cases were registered across Hyderabad between June 2025 and June 2026 . During this period, police unearthed several drug supply chains and seized narcotics worth approximately ₹22.17 crore , underscoring the scale of the ongoing anti-drug campaign.

Among the city’s policing zones, Jubilee Hills reported the highest number of drug-related cases with 116 , followed by Secunderabad (99) , Golconda (95) , Charminar (90) , Rajendranagar (84) , Khairatabad (49) and Shamshabad (30) .

Cannabis accounted for the largest share of the seized contraband. Police confiscated 2,513 kilograms of ganja valued at ₹12.56 crore , along with 55.3 litres of hash oil worth ₹6.91 crore . Authorities also seized 1,626 grams of MDMA valued at ₹1.62 crore and 129 grams of cocaine worth ₹64.5 lakh . Smaller quantities of heroin, LSD blot papers and opium were also recovered during various operations.

As part of efforts to eliminate drug hotspots, police conducted “Operation Thunderbolt” in Mangar Basti under the limits of Habib Nagar Police Station . The large-scale cordon-and-search operation involved nearly 1,100 personnel , leading to the seizure of ganja and illicit liquor from the area.

The department has also focused on rehabilitation alongside enforcement. Under the supervision of H-NEW , drug screening tests were conducted on 1,550 individuals , of whom 421 tested positive . Instead of limiting action to prosecution alone, police facilitated counselling and treatment through Gandhi Hospital , Erragadda Mental Health Hospital and recognised rehabilitation centres, reflecting a reform-oriented approach to tackling substance abuse.

Speaking on the issue, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said the state government is giving top priority to controlling narcotics and warned that no offender would be spared, regardless of influence or status. He urged parents to remain vigilant and monitor behavioural changes in their children to prevent them from falling into drug addiction. Citizens were also encouraged to share information related to drug activities through Dial 100 or the H-NEW helpline (8712661601) , with police assuring complete confidentiality for informants as part of the broader mission to build a drug-free society .
