Hyderabad Man Stabbed in Suspected Hate Crime in US, Owaisi Reacts

AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly condemned the alleged religion-based stabbing of a Hyderabad-born Indian in the United States, describing the attack as a disturbing act of hate and calling for firm action against those responsible. He also addressed the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and urged governments to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to drug-related offences.

The victim, Syed Sohailuddin (37) , a native of Hyderabad , was allegedly attacked while working at Valley Fair Mall in West Valley City, Utah , on Monday afternoon. According to local media and police, the suspect, Peter Michael Larsen , allegedly asked Sohailuddin about his religion before launching an unprovoked knife attack. Investigators are examining the incident as a suspected hate crime , and the accused has reportedly been arrested on charges including attempted murder .

Reports indicate that Sohailuddin suffered multiple stab wounds and underwent several surgeries. He remains under medical care, while members of the Indian community in the US have initiated a fundraising campaign to help meet his treatment expenses. The Consulate General of India in San Francisco has also said it is coordinating with local authorities and extending consular assistance to the victim's family.

Reacting to the incident, Owaisi said attacks targeting individuals because of their faith are deeply painful and unacceptable. He expressed concern over what he described as increasing instances of minority communities being targeted in public spaces across different parts of the world and stressed that hatred and religious intolerance have no place in any democratic society.

Speaking on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Owaisi said AIMIM workers are conducting awareness programmes in Telangana and other states to help eligible voters complete the verification process. He said party volunteers are guiding citizens on correctly filling application forms, responding to notices from election officials and ensuring that their names remain on the electoral rolls.

The AIMIM chief also reiterated his party's demand that the Telangana Government issue Permanent Residence Certificates to economically weaker sections, arguing that no eligible voter should risk losing the right to vote due to the absence of supporting documents. He urged the authorities to make the revision process accessible and inclusive for poor families.

Commenting on the growing drug menace, Owaisi said narcotics were destroying society from within and called for uncompromising action against those involved in the consumption, sale or trafficking of drugs. He urged governments to strengthen enforcement and ensure strict punishment for offenders.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India has extended the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision being conducted in Telangana , Delhi and two other states. Under the revised timeline, the draft electoral roll for Telangana will be published on August 10 , while the final electoral roll is scheduled for release on October 12 .
