Hyderabad Gears Up for Massive 1 Lakh LIG Housing Push
The Telangana government has launched a major affordable housing initiative aimed at helping low and middle-income families secure homes in Hyderabad . In the first phase, the state plans to construct one lakh Lower Income Group ( LIG ) houses across the city.
As part of the exercise, Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy inspected several proposed sites along with Minister Mohammed Azharuddin and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi. The team toured Nampally, Malakpet and Bahadurpura constituencies, reviewing unused government land and dilapidated public buildings in areas such as Kulsumapura, Afzal Sagar, Kaladera and Gaddiannaram.
The government plans to convert vacant public properties into modern residential communities equipped with essential infrastructure and civic facilities. Officials have been instructed to speed up land identification, planning and groundwork to ensure construction begins without delay.
Minister Ponguleti said the programme reflects the vision of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to improve urban living standards and tackle the city’s growing housing demand. With rapid urban expansion putting pressure on residential availability, the government aims to provide dignified and accessible living spaces for economically weaker sections.
Authorities have been directed to work on a war footing to complete the ambitious housing target within the stipulated timeline.
