Hyderabad Eateries Turn to Electric Stoves Amid Commercial Gas Shortage
The ongoing tensions in West Asia have begun affecting small food businesses in Hyderabad , as a shortage of commercial LPG cylinders disrupts operations at hotels and roadside tiffin centres.
With commercial LPG supplies tightening, many small eateries in the city are struggling to secure cooking gas. As a result, several establishments have started shifting to electric stoves to continue their daily operations.
Sharp Price Rise, Limited Supply
Raj Kumar , chef at Devi Nashta Point , said the price of a commercial LPG cylinder has increased sharply. Earlier priced around ₹1,800–₹1,900 , the cylinder now costs nearly ₹3,000–₹4,000 . Despite the steep price, cylinders remain difficult to obtain.
Due to the shortage, many small eateries have turned to electric cooking appliances. However, the sudden shift has also triggered a spike in demand for induction stoves, making them scarce in the market.
Demand for Electric Stoves Surges
The situation is not limited to Hyderabad. Cities such as Surat , Bengaluru , and Bhopal are also witnessing a surge in demand for electric stoves as hotels and restaurants search for alternatives.
In Surat , Gujarat , trader Laxman Singh said customers have been rushing to buy induction stoves over the past two to three days , leading to a shortage of stock and several pending orders.
Another trader, Dinesh Patel , said his shop has already run out of electric stoves and he is sourcing units from nearby stores to meet customer demand.
Meanwhile, the commercial LPG shortage has put hotels and restaurants across the country under pressure, forcing some establishments to temporarily halt operations.
To address the issue, the Central Government has formed a three-member committee , while officials said priority is currently being given to domestic LPG supply. Industry sources added that gas production has been increased by about 10 percent , and fresh supplies of LPG and LNG are expected soon, which could gradually improve the situation.
