The pilot, launched in Moosapet under the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, signals a move from routine clean-up drives to real-time prevention , aiming to eliminate chronic dumping hotspots across the city.
The initiative was inaugurated by Commissioner G. Srujana , who inspected long-standing Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) areas repeatedly used for dumping despite regular clearance. At a key location along HP Road, authorities have installed a CCTV camera equipped with motion sensors and automated voice alerts , capable of detecting movement and immediately cautioning individuals not to litter.
Unlike traditional surveillance, the system functions as an active deterrent . The moment someone approaches the site to dump waste, the device triggers an audio warning, discouraging the act before it happens. Officials say this marks a crucial upgrade from earlier methods that relied largely on post-violation penalties.
Sanitation teams can monitor the location in real time through a mobile-based application , receiving instant alerts whenever suspicious activity is detected. This enables quicker intervention and strengthens enforcement, reducing the need for repeated clean-up operations.
The project is part of the state government’s “Praja Palana – Pragati Pranalika” (99-day action plan) , which prioritizes the removal of garbage hotspots and improvement of urban sanitation standards. Civic authorities believe that targeting GVPs through such smart solutions is essential to achieving lasting cleanliness.
Encouraged by the early results, officials plan to expand the system to all major dumping points across the city. During her visit, the Commissioner also interacted with sanitation workers, reviewing on-ground challenges and emphasizing that technology must work alongside field efforts to deliver sustainable outcomes.
