Hyderabad Deploys 30,000 Personnel for Ganesh Immersion

Hyderabad is gearing up for one of the biggest events marking the conclusion of the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, with thousands of idols set to be immersed across Hussain Sagar and other lakes and water bodies in the twin cities and surrounding areas on Friday. With large crowds and hundreds of processions expected throughout the day, authorities have put in place elaborate security and traffic arrangements to ensure the celebrations pass off peacefully.

The Telangana police have deployed between 25,000 and 30,000 personnel across Hyderabad and its neighbouring areas to manage the massive movement of devotees and procession vehicles. Police teams have been positioned along key routes to monitor the movement of processions, regulate crowds and prevent disruptions. Officials said additional arrangements have been made to manage traffic at important junctions and ensure emergency services can move without obstruction.

Security operations are being supported by an extensive network of technology-driven surveillance systems. The State Command and Control Centre is monitoring developments across the city, allowing officials to respond quickly to incidents and coordinate field teams. Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said 24 drones and around 10,000 CCTV cameras have been deployed as part of the surveillance operation.

Authorities have also installed nearly 100 high-rise cameras on buildings around Hussain Sagar. The cameras will provide an expanded view of the immersion routes and surrounding areas. Officials said the system will not only strengthen real-time monitoring but also help maintain an accurate count of the Ganesh idols arriving at Hussain Sagar. The data is expected to assist authorities in planning security arrangements for future immersion events.

As the processions take over several major roads, traffic restrictions and diversions will be enforced in different parts of Hyderabad on September 25. Police have advised commuters to plan their journeys accordingly and cooperate with personnel deployed on the roads.

Emergency response teams have also been stationed around Hussain Sagar, with cranes, rescue boats, trained swimmers and medical teams kept ready to deal with accidents or other emergencies.

Authorities have appealed to devotees and Ganesh festival organisers to follow traffic rules, use designated routes and cooperate with the police. The government has declared September 25 a holiday for government offices, schools and colleges in Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts to facilitate the large-scale celebrations.
