Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has invited South Korean automobile major Hyundai to establish a car manufacturing plant in Telangana, assuring the company of full government support. He highlighted Hyderabad’s strategic geographical location, strong infrastructure, safe environment and reputation as a liveable city as key advantages for automobile manufacturing.

The Chief Minister held a meeting with a delegation led by Changyeon Cho, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor India Engineering (HMIE), in Hyderabad on Friday. Discussions covered the company’s expansion plans in Telangana and progress on its proposed research and development facility at Zaheerabad.

The company plans to establish an integrated global research and development centre across 678 acres in the National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) in Zaheerabad, Sangareddy district. The project involves an investment of Rs 8,528 crore and is expected to generate 4,276 jobs. It will be developed in phases.

Hyundai representatives briefed the Chief Minister on the project’s progress, stating that the site was expected to be ready for the foundation-laying ceremony in the coming months. Revanth Reddy assured them of the state government’s cooperation in accelerating the work.

Hyundai has operated in Hyderabad for nearly two decades. Its HITEC City facility undertakes advanced automotive engineering and research activities. The proposed Zaheerabad centre, along with a large-scale vehicle testing facility, will expand the company’s engineering capabilities, supporting vehicle testing, performance validation and improvements in engineering processes.

The Chief Minister also highlighted Telangana’s road, rail and air connectivity, specialised mobility clusters and plans to improve transport links to seaports. Initiatives such as the Peri-Urban Region Economy (PURE) are intended to strengthen manufacturing and regional economic growth.

Engagement between the state and Hyundai began during the World Economic Forum in 2024. A state Cabinet subcommittee approved the R&D centre proposal in June 2025.

Revanth Reddy invited Hyundai to explore investment opportunities at Bharat Future City, planned as a world-class satellite city on Hyderabad’s outskirts, and attend the Invest Telangana Global Summit 2026 in December. Cho said the company’s plans aligned with Telangana’s Rising 2047 vision.
