Home Minister Anita vows no leniency on false cases

The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly witnessed a discussion on false and unlawful cases registered during the previous government’s tenure from 2019 to 2024. Responding to questions raised by senior legislator Konidela Nagabhabu, State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anita made critical revelations regarding political misuse of law.

The minister stated that hundreds of cases were filed against Amaravati farmers who had protested for the state capital, and that she herself faced cases under the SC/ST (Atrocities) Act, requiring her to appear before the Kadapa Court. She stressed that the current coalition government would not continue the “dark practices” of the previous administration and assured that all cases were being examined thoroughly under legal frameworks, with appropriate remedial actions underway.

Highlighting progress in addressing protest-related cases, Anita said that 80% of cases filed against teachers who had agitated for the cancellation of CPS (Contributory Pension Scheme) had already been dropped, while efforts are ongoing to resolve the remaining cases. She emphasized that deliberate false cases registered under YSRCP rule would not be ignored; the government intends to trace their origins and expose the political conspiracies behind them.

According to the Home Minister, a total of 3,116 false cases were registered during the 2019–2024 period, targeting political leaders, media personnel, and ordinary citizens expressing opinions on social media. She criticized the previous government for filing cases merely because individuals questioned the administration, shared, or forwarded posts online. Specifically, she recalled that hundreds of cases were registered against Amaravati farmers during the capital movement, some of which are still under investigation, trial, or court adjudication.

Anita added that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would soon review the situation and announce further actions. She assured that police and legal departments are coordinating to resolve these cases promptly. Addressing recent media reports suggesting that 94% of NDA coalition members faced legal cases, she clarified that these were political in nature and did not include personal disputes such as “Kodi Kathi” or family-related complaints. She maintained that such cases were lodged only to highlight the previous government’s flawed practices.

Navaratri Celebrations and Assembly Dress Code:

In a symbolic gesture during Navaratri, female representatives of the coalition, including ministers and legislators, adhered to a red dress code in the Assembly. The women members explained that this initiative was meant to send a positive message about the state’s cultural traditions. They visited the Durga temple earlier in the day, offering prayers and showing respect to the Goddess in accordance with the traditional Gayatri deity attire. Home Minister Anita extended her Navaratri greetings to all, emphasizing that the government is ensuring the festivals are conducted smoothly and in full grandeur across the state.
