Hockey India keeps doors open, Junior World Cup entry goes free

In a significant step aimed at drawing bigger crowds and boosting fan participation, Hockey India on Sunday announced that entry will be free for all matches of the Men’s Junior World Cup, to be held in Madurai and Chennai from November 28 to December 10.

This edition is set to be the largest in junior World Cup history, with 24 international teams gearing up for nearly two weeks of fast paced action. Madurai will host a major share of the group stage clashes, while Chennai is expected to stage the high stakes knockout rounds, including quarterfinals, semifinals, and the title match.

Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey said the move is intended to attract young fans and ensure an electric atmosphere throughout the tournament. “Our aim is to open the gates for students, young athletes, families, and hockey lovers across Tamil Nadu and beyond,” he said, highlighting that home crowd energy has always been Indian hockey’s biggest strength.

With teams from Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, and the Americas converging for high-quality junior hockey, organisers hope this initiative will keep stadiums packed from the opening whistle to the final. The federation believes the buzzing stands will motivate young players and help create one of the most memorable editions of the World Cup.
