Hoax bomb threats trigger sweeps at Tirupati university, helipad

The Sri Venkateshwara Agriculture University in Tirupati and a helipad set up for Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's visit , received bomb threats . The threats were conveyed through an email claiming that five RDX( Royal Demolition Explosive) - based Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were planted in and around the university and helipad. Additionally, the associate dean of the university received a similar threat by phone early in the morning.

In response, Tirupati Police coordinated with the Bomb Disposal Team and other security agencies to conduct thorough searches at the university's helipad and Tirupati airport. Extensive security checks were carried out, including the use of sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squads, and security was tightened in the area anticipating the Chief Minister's visit.

After careful inspection and security sweeps, the threats were confirmed to be a hoax as no explosives were found on the premises. Security measures remain heightened in the area due to the CM's scheduled visit.

Earlier days, similar bomb threat emails referencing ISI ( Inter-Services Intelligence) and former LTTE ( Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam ) militants suggested RDX explosives in multiple sensitive locations in Tirupati, including bus stands, temples, and judges' residences, which also turned out to be false alarms with no explosives found.

In summary, the recent bomb threats targeting Sri Venkateshwara Agriculture University and the helipad in Tirupati were hoaxes, and no explosives were discovered after thorough searches by security forces ahead of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's visit.
