Hoax Bomb Threat Triggers Two-Hour Security Sweep at Rohini Metro Station Amid Rising False Alerts
A bomb threat call sparked a high-alert security operation at the Rohini Sector 18–19 station of the Delhi Metro on Tuesday evening, with authorities later declaring it a hoax after an intensive search.
According to the Delhi Fire Service, the call was received around 6:10 pm, prompting the immediate deployment of multiple emergency response teams. Personnel from the police, bomb disposal squad, dog squad, and fire department conducted a thorough search of the station premises, including platforms and adjoining areas, as a precautionary measure.
Commuters were alerted during the operation, and security protocols were significantly tightened. After nearly two hours of inspection, officials confirmed that nothing suspicious was found, and the threat was declared a hoax around 8:10 pm.
The incident comes amid a recent spate of similar hoax bomb threats reported across the national capital in the past few days. Several educational institutions, including universities and schools, as well as other public places, have received anonymous threat calls or messages, triggering evacuations and large-scale security checks. In each case so far, no explosives have been recovered, but the repeated incidents have raised concerns among authorities over public safety and the misuse of emergency services.
Police have launched an investigation to trace the source of the Rohini call and determine whether it is linked to the recent series of threats. Officials said strict legal action would be taken against those responsible for spreading panic and disrupting essential services.
Further investigation is underway.
