HiTech City - Where coding is a language, Literature takes the stage
In a significant move to bolster community education and literacy, Coforge Limited, a leading Indian multinational IT services company, inaugurated its first public library in Hyderabad on October 8, 2025.
Located on the 8th floor of Pranava Group - The Business Park, Kothaguda, near the bustling HiTech City, this state-of-the-art facility spans 15,660 square feet and houses over 15,000 books, digital resources, and a dedicated children’s zone. Open to all from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, 365 days a year, and completely free of charge, the Coforge Public Library marks a pioneering CSR initiative aimed at bridging the urban literacy gap in one of India’s premier tech hubs.
Background of Coforge: A Legacy of Innovation and Responsibility
Founded as NIIT Technologies in 1992 and rebranded as Coforge in 2020, the Noida-based company has grown into a global IT powerhouse, serving clients across industries with cutting-edge digital transformation solutions. The company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) is deeply embedded in its ethos, with initiatives ranging from supporting local charities to combating climate change and promoting equitable access to education. The Hyderabad library aligns with this vision, reflecting Coforge’s belief, as articulated by CEO Sudhir Singh, that “public libraries are long-term social infrastructure that outlast technology cycles and business models.”
According to recent Telangana government data, public libraries serve less than 1% of the city’s population, leaving a significant gap in accessible learning resources. Recognizing this, Coforge allocated space in its Pranava Business Park office to create a modern, inclusive library. The initiative also responds to growing concerns about digital overload among youth, offering a physical space to encourage reading and intellectual engagement, an effort praised by locals on social media platforms like X, where users hailed it as a counter to “stupid scrolling.”
Why Hyderabad’s tech hub needs this library
HiTech City and surrounding areas like Kondapur are home to thousands of software engineers and tech professionals who thrive in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment. However, the lack of accessible public spaces for intellectual pursuits often limits their exposure to diverse knowledge beyond their specialized fields. This library addresses that need by offering a quiet space for research, skill enhancement, and creative thinking critical for engineers tackling complex projects or exploring emerging technologies like AI and machine learning. For instance, the library’s digital resources could support learning platforms or coding tutorials, enhancing their professional growth. Beyond techies, the library serves the common public families, students, and retirees by providing free access to educational materials.
Public Libraries in Hyderabad
• State Central Library (Afzal Gunj) - A historic repository with over 500,000 books, ideal for research and exam prep.
• City Central Library (Abids) - A bustling hub with a vast collection for competitive exam aspirants.
• Telugu University Library (Nampally) - Focuses on regional literature and language studies.
• Osmania University Library - A vast academic resource for college students and researchers.
• Coforge Public Library (Kothaguda) - Newest addition with modern facilities and free entry.
These libraries support students by offering free or subsidized access to books, study materials, and internet, reducing reliance on costly coaching centers. The “Book Doctor” corners, as seen in initiatives like Telangana’s ‘Granthalayala Deepti,’ further assist exam aspirants with damaged book restoration and guidance.
Call for more libraries
The Coforge Public Library is a commendable step toward enriching Hyderabad’s cultural and intellectual landscape. However, the city’s rapid growth as a global tech and cultural hub demands more such spaces. Additional libraries, strategically located across urban and rural areas, would diversify thought, nurture talent, and reinforce Hyderabad’s reputation as a city of knowledge. As diverse minds converge in these reading spaces, they will undoubtedly amplify the city’s glory, making it a beacon of learning in the digital age.
