Historic Feat! Harmanpreet Kaur Becomes First Player to Reach 200 T20 Internationals
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur has etched her name in cricket history by becoming the first player ever across men’s and women’s international cricket to appear in 200 T20 Internationals . The landmark came during India’s World Cup clash against South Africa , adding another defining moment to her remarkable career.
Harmanpreet’s journey in international cricket began in 2009 , when she made her debut in the ODI format against Pakistan. Later that year, she entered the T20I format against England at Taunton, beginning a career that would grow into one of the most consistent and influential in modern women’s cricket.
To honour the achievement, she was felicitated in a team huddle before the match. Head coach Amol Muzumdar and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana presented her with a special jersey and a cap marked “200” , recognising her longevity and contribution to Indian cricket.
Speaking at the toss, Harmanpreet Kaur expressed gratitude for her long journey, saying she never expected to reach such a milestone. She credited her family, teammates, coaches, and the BCCI for their continuous support throughout her career.
She also shared a light moment, noting she felt more nervous playing her 200th T20I , while young debutant Prema Rawat appeared calm as she received her first cap.
With this appearance, Harmanpreet now stands at the top of the global list for most T20I matches played. She leads the women’s chart ahead of Suzie Bates (New Zealand) , Danni Wyatt-Hodge (England), Ellyse Perry (Australia), and Smriti Mandhana (India). Among men, Ireland’s Paul Stirling leads with 163 matches, followed by Rohit Sharma , Jos Buttler , and Mohammad Nabi .
The milestone highlights not just personal excellence but also the growing stature of women’s cricket on the world stage, with Harmanpreet Kaur setting a benchmark that may stand for years to come.
