Guwahati is all set for a major political moment as Himanta Biswa Sarma prepares to take oath as Assam’s chief minister for a second consecutive term on Tuesday, marking a strong continuation of the BJP led NDA government in the state.

The grand swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Veterinary College Field, Khanapara at 11:40 am, where Narendra Modi , along with senior Union ministers including Amit Shah , Rajnath Singh , and Nirmala Sitharaman , are expected to attend. Former Assam chief minister and Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal , BJP national president Nitin Nabin , and several NDA chief ministers and deputy chief ministers will also be present, making it a large-scale political gathering.

Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Sarma and his new Council of Ministers. This marks Sarma’s second consecutive term as chief minister, a first for any non Congress leader in Assam’s recent political history.

The NDA, comprising the BJP, AGP and BPF , secured a strong mandate in the assembly elections with 102 seats out of 126 , with the BJP alone winning 82 seats , achieving its first full majority in the state.

The venue is being prepared on a massive scale, with over one lakh people expected to attend. Three separate stages have been arranged for dignitaries, MLAs, MPs, diplomats, and public representatives. Security arrangements have been tightened with deployment of multiple forces, including central security units, to ensure smooth conduct of the ceremony.

Following the oath taking, Sarma is expected to outline the government’s priorities for the first 100 days , with a focus on land rights, development initiatives, and eviction drives . He has already emphasized that Assam’s land, identity, and future remain central to the government’s agenda, reflecting the political narrative that shaped the NDA’s electoral campaign.

The event is being seen not just as a constitutional ceremony, but as a strong political statement of continuity, confidence, and expanded mandate in Assam.
