Himachal Pradesh Rain Fury: 69 Roads Shut, 80 Water Projects Hit Amid Landslide Risk

Heavy rainfall has disrupted normal life across several parts of Himachal Pradesh , triggering landslides, road blockages and damage to essential services. The state witnessed light to moderate rainfall on Monday , while the weather department has issued an alert for heavy rain at isolated places during the weekend .

According to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), a total of 69 roads have been closed due to torrential rainfall-related disruptions. The worst-affected district is Kullu, where 38 roads remain blocked, followed by Mandi (13), Sirmaur (6), Shimla (5), Kangra (4), Una (2), and Lahaul-Spiti (1). The rainfall has also disrupted 80 water supply projects , affecting essential services in several areas.

The monsoon activity has increased the risk of landslides, with 25 landslide incidents reported in July so far . The state has recorded 125 mm rainfall in July against the normal 94.5 mm , marking a 32 per cent excess rainfall during the month.

Several regions received heavy showers in the 24 hours since Sunday evening. Kasauli in Solan district recorded the highest rainfall at 62 mm , followed by Olinda (60 mm), Dharampur (54.6 mm), Ghamroor (51.6 mm), Nangal Dam (48.2 mm), Brahmani (42.4 mm), and Una (35.4 mm).

Thunderstorms were reported in Shimla, Sundernagar, Bhuntar, Kangra, Jot and Murari Devi, while strong winds with speeds of 37–50 kmph affected areas including Bilaspur, Neri, Shimla, Kufri, Hamirpur, Sundernagar and Tabo.

The weather conditions have also caused significant temperature variation across the state. Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti recorded the lowest temperature at 8.4 degrees Celsius , while Neri was the warmest with a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius .

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and working to restore road connectivity and essential services. Residents and tourists have been advised to remain cautious, especially in landslide-prone and hilly regions , as monsoon activity continues across the state.
