High-level coordination meeting on drug control held in Hyderabad

A high-level coordination meeting involving central and state agencies was held on Friday at the Telangana Global Innovation Convention Center (TGICC) in Banjara Hills to strengthen efforts toward controlling drug trafficking in the city.

Officials from multiple agencies - including the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Excise Department, Counter-Intelligence, EAGLE unit, and FRRO - participated actively, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said.

Speaking after the meeting, the Commissioner noted that a comprehensive strategy is being developed to curb the spread of narcotic substances and reduce the growing menace that is impacting communities. He emphasized that strong surveillance mechanisms would be put in place to track drug networks, rowdy elements, and habitual offenders.

To tighten the city’s anti-drug operations, it has been decided to further strengthen the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW). The city police plan to set up four to five additional teams to make anti-drug enforcement faster and more effective.

Officials stressed that eliminating drug abuse is not a one-day task but a continuous battle. They called for seamless cooperation among all departments to achieve meaningful results.

Going forward, monthly coordination meetings will be held with all participating agencies to review ongoing cases and evaluate progress. Advanced technologies will also be integrated into monitoring and enforcement systems to curb drug circulation more efficiently.

Agencies collectively affirmed that they would ensure full cooperation and work in a synchronised manner to deliver quick and impactful outcomes in Hyderabad’s fight against drugs.
