High Court Cancels Bail for Accused in Chandrababu Convoy Stone-Pelting Case

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has delivered a major setback to the accused in the stone-pelting case on the convoy of TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu in Nandigama. The court cancelled the bail earlier granted by a lower court and issued key directions in the matter. It also ordered all the accused to surrender before the court within a week.

What happened?

In November 2022 , the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) launched the ‘Badude Badudu’ programme to protest against the policies of the then YSRCP government. As part of the campaign, Chandrababu Naidu visited Nandigama .

When his convoy entered the town, a group of individuals allegedly attacked it with stones. At the time, allegations surfaced that the streetlights had been switched off and the attack was carried out in darkness as part of a pre-planned act. One member of Naidu’s security staff was injured in the incident.

Following the attack, Nandigama police registered a case and began an investigation. Based on video footage and other evidence, police identified several individuals including Kanikanti Sajjan Rao, Bezawada Karthik, and Parimi Kishore as key participants in the attack.

Cases were registered against them under serious charges, including attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy .

The accused had earlier obtained bail from a lower court. However, the police approached the High Court , arguing that bail had been granted without adequately considering the gravity of the offence.

After hearing the arguments, the High Court cancelled the bail and directed the accused to surrender before the court within one week . It also instructed the police to initiate strict legal action if the accused failed to surrender within the stipulated time.
