High alert in Andhra Pradesh as cyclone ‘Montha’ approaches coastline
The Andhra Pradesh government has issued a high alert for coastal districts as a severe cyclone, named “Montha,” is likely to make landfall between October 27 and 30. Areas between Visakhapatnam and Ongole are considered the most vulnerable.
Currently, the Central Bay of Bengal is witnessing a well-marked low-pressure area, which is expected to strengthen into a depression by October 25. Meteorological authorities forecast further intensification into a cyclonic storm before it reaches the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh around October 27 or 28.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has advised residents in the potentially affected areas to remain vigilant, secure property, and avoid unnecessary travel until the cyclone passes. Local administrations are reportedly preparing evacuation plans, relief shelters, and emergency response teams to manage potential damage.
Fishermen have also been advised not to venture into the sea until further notice, and transport authorities are monitoring conditions to ensure road and rail safety along the coastal belt.
