Heavy rains flood farmlands in Kadapa; Farmers seek relief

Continuous heavy rains over the past week have caused widespread waterlogging in parts of YSR Kadapa district, raising concerns about crop damage. The Reddy Kottala reservoir in Porumamilla mandal has reportedly reached high water levels, though officials have not yet confirmed whether the sluice gates have been fully opened to manage the flow.

Farmers in villages surrounding the reservoir have reported water entering their fields and orchards. Bojja Gurrappa, a local lemon orchard cultivator, said his orchard, which he has maintained for five years, has been submerged. He has reportedly written to the district collector and local authorities seeking urgent assistance.

The exact extent of crop loss is still under assessment, and district agricultural officers are expected to inspect the affected areas to evaluate damages and provide support to farmers. Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution near waterlogged fields and are monitoring reservoir levels and rainfall patterns to mitigate further damage.

While farmers continue to face hardship, the district administration has not yet issued a public statement on relief measures or water management plans. Local officials have stated that updates will be provided once assessments are complete.
