Heavy Rain Warning in Kerala: Orange Alert in Two Districts, Yellow Alert Across State
Kerala is expected to experience intensified rainfall conditions on May 18 , as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) continues to maintain orange and yellow alerts across several districts, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
The orange alert remains in force for Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha , where rainfall is likely to reach very heavy levels , raising concerns over possible localised flooding in low lying regions.
A wider yellow alert has been issued across multiple districts including Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram, along with Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod, warning of moderate to heavy rainfall activity in isolated pockets.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has urged residents in flood prone and landslide prone regions to remain alert and strictly follow official instructions. People living near rivers, dams, and low lying areas have been advised to move to safer locations if required.
Authorities have also cautioned against non essential travel , particularly to hilly areas, waterfalls, and water bodies, as rainfall may lead to slippery roads and reduced visibility. Motorists have been advised to drive carefully, while residents are encouraged to secure weak structures and stay updated with local weather advisories.
