Several parts of Mumbai witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder on Monday morning, bringing respite from the prevailing heat and humidity even as the city continues to await the formal onset of the southwest monsoon.

The rain, which lashed the city for the second consecutive day , was accompanied by overcast skies and cool winds, creating pleasant weather conditions across the metropolis. However, intense showers in some areas led to reduced visibility and minor traffic disruptions during the morning hours.

According to civic officials, no major waterlogging or rain-related incidents were reported, and public transport services continued to operate normally despite the downpour.

The southwest monsoon , which typically reaches Mumbai around June 10 , has been delayed this year. While it advanced into the south Konkan region earlier this month, its progress subsequently stalled due to unfavourable weather conditions.

Data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) showed that between 6 am and 7 am , the island city recorded an average rainfall of 17 mm , while the western suburbs received 10 mm . No measurable rainfall was recorded in the eastern suburbs during the same period.

Among the highest rainfall readings, Savitribai Phule BMC School at Worli Naka recorded 61 mm of rain in just one hour, followed by Prabhadevi's G-South ward with 58 mm . Other areas including Worli, Malabar Hill, Parel and Bandra also experienced intense showers.

In the western suburbs, Pali Chimbai School and Supari Tank BMC School in Bandra recorded the highest rainfall at 70 mm each , highlighting the uneven but intense nature of the showers across the city.

Weather officials expect rain activity to continue, raising hopes that the delayed monsoon may soon advance into Mumbai and adjoining regions.
