Headmistress, Two School Staff Arrested in Thane Admission Bribery Case
Three employees of a private school in Maharashtra’s Thane, including the headmistress, were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on Tuesday for allegedly demanding and accepting bribes from parents seeking admission for their children.
According to officials, the accused were identified as headmistress Atiya Baidujman Khan (56) , computer teacher Rizvan Banu Amjad Khan , and clerk Asma Mohsafi Sheikh .
The arrests were made after the Thane unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau received complaints from parents alleging that money was being illegally demanded in exchange for school admissions, a practice officials described as deeply unfortunate in the field of education.
Inspector Anupama Khare said the agency laid a trap after verifying the complaint. The trio was allegedly caught while accepting Rs 4,000 from one of the complainants.
Investigators said the accused had allegedly been collecting Rs 3,000 under various unofficial charges along with a refundable deposit of Rs 1,000 from parents seeking admission for their children.
The incident has raised concerns over corruption in the school admission process, particularly at a time when parents already face mounting academic and financial pressures.
A case has been registered against the three accused, and further investigation is underway to determine whether more parents were similarly targeted.
