
Head Constable Attacked in Bengaluru While Questioning Public Nuisance Case
A head constable was stabbed by an unidentified man after he intervened in an alleged public nuisance incident near Mehri Circle in Bengaluru on Friday night, in a case that has once again highlighted concerns over rising attacks on police personnel and everyday law enforcement challenges .
According to police, Vijay Rathod, a head constable posted at DJ Halli Police Station, was returning home on his two-wheeler after duty when he noticed a man creating a disturbance in a public area. When he stopped to question the individual and attempted to de-escalate the situation, the suspect allegedly attacked him with a knife and fled the spot.
Rathod sustained injuries in the attack and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where he is undergoing treatment. Police officials said his condition is currently stable .
A case has been registered at R T Nagar Police Station, and multiple teams have been formed to identify and trace the attacker .
Officials said the incident reflects a worrying pattern of increasing confrontations and assaults on on-duty and off-duty police personnel, particularly when they intervene in public disturbances . Law enforcement authorities are facing heightened risks while managing street-level enforcement , often with limited backup during spontaneous incidents.
The attack has raised renewed concerns over public safety and the need for stronger deterrence against violence targeting frontline police officers, who frequently act as first responders in volatile situations across urban areas.
