Haryana CM holds Osaka talks with mayors, boosts Japan ties
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, leading a high-level delegation to Japan, held a significant meeting with the mayors of multiple Japanese cities in Osaka on Tuesday to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Haryana and Japan.
The meeting focused on exploring social, economic, and industrial partnerships, with an emphasis on the role of local administrative bodies in fostering global collaboration, a Haryana government statement said. Chief Minister Saini highlighted that in the current era of rapid urbanisation, planning and developing urban infrastructure and services with a forward-looking approach is essential. He emphasised that by learning from Japan’s modern urban models, Haryana can strategise the expansion and modernisation of its cities.
The Haryana delegation included Industries and Commerce Minister Rao Narbir Singh, Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Rajesh Khullar, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Arun Kumar Gupta, and other senior state officials.
During the discussions, Japanese mayors and deputy mayors from Buzen, Izumisano, Higashiosaka, Kashihara, Sakai, Matsubara, Tondabayashi, Misaki Town, Izumi, Taishi Town, and Takaishi presented the initiatives undertaken by their cities to strengthen India-Japan relations. They highlighted the importance of Haryana as a reliable and rapidly growing industrial destination and expressed interest in expanding collaboration in the automotive sector.
On behalf of Haryana, the delegation presented India’s rapid economic growth under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and detailed the state’s industrial potential, infrastructure, and investment-friendly policies. Chief Minister Saini reiterated Haryana’s commitment to a long-term, result-oriented partnership with Japan under the vision of “Viksit Bharat – Viksit Haryana.”
The discussions also covered urban planning and technical collaboration. Saini expressed Haryana’s interest in adopting Japanese expertise in areas such as urban management, public transportation, water conservation, and smart city initiatives. He highlighted Japan’s global reputation in urban planning and stated that Haryana aims to equip its metropolitan and major cities with advanced infrastructure, including smart mobility solutions, green buildings, and sustainable urban development. He added that such initiatives are expected to improve the quality of life for residents.
In parallel with the mayoral meetings, the Haryana delegation engaged with top executives of leading Japanese companies, including Minebea Mitsumi, Mitsui Kinzoku Components India Pvt. Ltd., and Nitto Seiko, in Osaka. During these discussions, the Haryana government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mitsui Kinzoku Components India Pvt. Ltd. to promote research and development in the green hydrogen sector. The MoU outlines collaborative efforts in technology development, production, storage, and applications of green hydrogen, aiming to advance innovation, generate employment, and strengthen Haryana’s green energy initiatives.
Japanese companies also expressed their intent to invest in new projects in Haryana’s precision manufacturing and electronics sectors. These planned investments are expected to further enhance the state’s industrial ecosystem and support its manufacturing capabilities.
Chief Minister Saini underscored the importance of local governance in building international partnerships and reiterated Haryana’s commitment to integrating global best practices into the state’s urban and industrial development plans. The delegation’s engagements in Osaka reflect Haryana’s proactive approach to fostering industrial growth, sustainable urbanisation, and green energy innovation in collaboration with international partners.
The meetings in Osaka mark a significant step in deepening Haryana-Japan relations and expanding opportunities for bilateral cooperation in governance, industry, and technology.
