Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly preparing to move back to the United Kingdom with their two children later this month, but the couple will remain non-working members of the royal family, according to British media reports.

Harry, the younger son of King Charles III, and Meghan stepped back from frontline royal duties and relocated to the United States six years ago. The couple are now expected to live at a private, non-royal residence outside London, while their children, seven-year-old Prince Archie and five-year-old Princess Lilibet, have reportedly been enrolled at a British school for the new term in September.

The reported move was first revealed by The Daily Telegraph and The Sun. Buckingham Palace has maintained that it does not comment on matters involving non-working royals. However, reports indicate that King Charles was informed of the plans on Sunday.

The development follows Harry and Meghan’s private visit to Charles’ Highgrove residence in Gloucestershire last month. The meeting marked an important moment in their family relationship, with Charles spending time with Archie and Lilibet after a lengthy gap.

Despite the return, there is no plan for the Sussexes to resume official royal duties. Their status is expected to remain unchanged under the arrangement established after they stepped back in 2020, with no prospect of a “half in, half out” role.

Harry has previously spoken publicly about wanting to reconcile with his family, particularly amid his father’s ongoing cancer treatment. He has also fought a legal battle over security arrangements for his family in Britain.

Relations with his brother, Prince William, remain strained. Harry has previously criticised royal life and palace officials in interviews and his memoir Spare, while allegations concerning comments about Meghan’s biracial background further deepened tensions.

The reported UK return could nevertheless give Harry greater opportunities to spend time with his father, while keeping the Sussexes firmly outside the working royal structure.
