Harish Rao Slams Revanth Reddy Over Job Crisis, Questions Treatment of Unemployed Youth

BRS senior leader and former minister T Harish Rao has strongly criticised the Congress government in Telangana, accusing it of failing to create adequate employment opportunities and adopting a “hostile” approach towards students and unemployed youth.

In a post on X on August 9, Harish Rao questioned Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over the government’s handling of job seekers. He alleged that Congress leaders had sought the support of unemployed youth during the elections but were now taking a tough stance when they came onto the streets demanding employment.

Harish Rao cited the massive turnout for recruitment to just 150 driver posts in HYDRAA as an indication of the state’s employment crisis. Thousands of candidates reportedly gathered at Saroornagar Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday, causing heavy congestion inside the premises. Police intervened to control the crowd and maintain law and order.

The BRS leader said the overwhelming response showed the intense demand for government jobs. He pointed out that candidates with engineering, postgraduate and PhD qualifications were also competing for relatively lower-level positions because of the shortage of adequate recruitment notifications.

Harish Rao also took exception to alleged remarks by Revanth Reddy referring to engineering students as “criminal waste”. He termed such comments inappropriate for a Chief Minister and also criticised officials for allegedly using abusive language while dealing with unemployed candidates, invoking the phrase “Yatha Raja, Tatha Adhikaris”.

He recalled the Congress government’s election promise to fill two lakh jobs within its first year, alleging that more than 32 months had passed without the commitment being fulfilled. He claimed that both the promised recruitments and the job calendar had failed to meet expectations.

“If two lakh jobs had actually been filled, would thousands of youngsters have to queue up for just 150 driver posts?” Harish Rao asked.

He said demanding a job or questioning the government is not a crime, and that unemployed youth were seeking fulfillment of promises rather than sympathy.

Harish Rao demanded immediate disciplinary action against officials accused of misbehaving with job seekers and called for an apology from the government to students and unemployed youth.
