Former minister and BRS legislator T. Harish Rao criticized the Congress government over the way irrigation projects are being handled in Telangana.

He questioned the huge allocation of Rs 35,000 crore for the Thummidihatti-Ellampalli project, pointing out that the entire Kaleshwaram project from Medigadda to Mallannasagar was built for around Rs 84,000 crore.

According to Rao, the Congress government’s new project is designed to provide irrigation to only 4.47 lakh acres, while the Kaleshwaram project was aimed at supplying water to 37 lakh acres. “Spending Rs 35,000 crore to irrigate such a small area only proves the poor engineering vision of this government,” he remarked sarcastically.

He further alleged that the Congress project would utilize just 80 TMC of water, which, in his view, falls drastically short compared to what the state truly needs. “With one-third of the cost, they are not even delivering one-tenth of the water. Is this what they call real change?” he asked.

Harish Rao’s comments highlight the growing political battle over Telangana’s irrigation projects, with the opposition accusing the Congress government of wasting public money while failing to meet the state’s agricultural needs.
