Harish Rao slams Congress over Krishna water dispute

BRS leader and former minister Harish Rao has strongly criticized the Congress government over the allocation of Krishna river water. He accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Water Resources Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy of making inconsistent statements on the state’s water share, saying their approach is harming Telangana’s interests.

Harish Rao pointed out that the Chief Minister has alternately claimed Telangana’s entitlement as 500 TMC and 904 TMC, while the Water Resources Minister has demanded 763 TMC. He called this contradiction as evidence of their lack of understanding and warned that it could cost the state’s rightful water share.

Harish Rao also blamed the Congress government for historical mistakes, noting that during the joint Andhra Pradesh era, Telangana was allocated only 299 TMC while Andhra Pradesh got 512 TMC - a decision he said Congress never properly challenged. He claimed the BRS government, under K. Chandrasekhar Rao, had to fight tirelessly in the Supreme Court to secure Telangana’s rightful 763 TMC share, coordinating with Union ministers like Uma Bharti and Nitin Gadkari to defend Section 3 of the agreement.

Harish Rao further criticized Congress for taking credit for the completion of projects like the Sammakka Sagar Barrage, saying the BRS government had done the actual work while Congress only promoted it politically.

He also accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of favoring neighboring states over Telangana’s farmers. Harish Rao said Reventh Reddy has remained silent on the Banakacherla project due to fear of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and has neglected the Alamatti dam issue in Karnataka because Congress rules there. This, he warned, could cause severe losses for Telangana’s farmers and leave a lasting negative mark on the state’s leadership if water mismanagement continues.
